Located approximately 12 miles southeast of Payson, the Gisela Road turnoff from Highway 87 brings you into a remarkable valley.

The Gisela Valley is surrounded by the Tonto National Forest, with the Tonto Creek running parallel to the mountains at the base of the valley. Two ranches were subdivided in the 1970s. The northern ranch is now Gisela. The southern subdivision is Tonto Creek Shores.

In May and June, the prickly pear blooms in all shades of yellow, even peachy pink. Shown here, they surround the historic corral at the entrance to Gisela.

At about 3,000 feet, Gisela has 4 moderate seasons. In the summer, we are usually about 10 degrees cooler than the Phoenix area. Nights and early mornings are blissfully cool and glorious.

These large mountains fill the eastern views in the Gisela Valley. The foothills rise to the west. So we also enjoy briliant skies in the evening as the sunset to the we4st reflects in our eastern skies.

It rarely snows in Gisela. In March, 2006, the storm that brought 30 inches to Payson, gave Gisela about a foot or so, and created this spectacle.
